An entrepreneur is described in many ways. Webster definition of an entrepreneur is “one who organizes and directs a business or project undertaking and assuming the risk for the sake of making profit. Co author G.T Solomon of “Key issues in creativity innovation and entrepreneurship “ has expressed the idea that the entrepreneurs challenge is to find out and discover new ways to stimulate and trigger the economy out of the otherwise repetitive cycle of doing things. They were creators of new business ventures initiating the developments of new ideas products and methods of promotion and marketing.
We observe the evidence of successful entrepreneurs in everyday life. Many of the business and industries we see today started off as a “Crazy Idea” of some sort. An example of this is the aircraft industry. Aircraft were once considered to be bizarre contraption fit only for entertainment at local fairs and exhibits. However, it took an entrepreneur to turn this contraption into what intimately became a global industry. William Boeing in 1916 created the “Pacific Aero Products Corp” later to become “Boeing Industries”. Boeing had a vision transcending transport for only mail and cargo but also to bring people from one place to another, for an industry now spanning the world. In the industrial century (1900’s) entrepreneurs such as bell, Edison, Morse and others have transformed our world to enable the multitude of communications we today take so much for granted.
In the 20th century innovators such as Ford, Toyota, Sony, MGM-Disney and others have also had profound impart in the development of transports the arts and sciences of entertainment. In the more recent decades Bill Gates and company and Steve Jobs and company have taken communications tools (gadgets) to new heights that were unimaginable just a few years ago. The Iphone is just one example.
The entrepreneurial spirit is a creative force in someone who combines ideas and action with a plan to bring it to actualization and realization. To exclude any of the above limits the process to achieve fruition.
Psychologist and behavioural sociologists have identified some of the essential characteristics that make up an entrepreneurs skills and aptitudes. Are they inborn or fostered? Or a product of nature or nurture? It is not just an either-or proposition but perhaps involves a combination of both important elements. The most important thing is that you realize the entrepreneur in yourself. Aptitude tests and quizzes designed for self examination and evaluation may be a good starting point but ultimately it is the belief in yourself and your ideas that will predominate and provide the key to success. Another factor is to have a positive support group of friends and family to encourage you and provide feedback.
Some behaviourists have suggested that entrepreneurs are driven by the desire to prove something and that a business is a way to push one selves, self development, and self esteem. This may be true, however others are motivated for altruistic reasons; philanthropy and the desire to make the future of our planet safer and more at peace. In this case the emphasis is more than just the financial bottom line but in knowing that you are making a viable contribution that benefits not only you but others extending outward including the whole planet. In this case business is just the fuel provided to drive the entrepreneur.
The entrepreneur then is the engine that runs the business. Their ideas are the battery where energy is created and stored. This is where he reads the trends, communicates with people, catches on to the hunches (intuitively or practically) that formulate business opportunities. The next dimension is to take action, promote your idea, test the market and show people the benefits of the product or service offered. In taking action entrepreneurs need to look at developing resources in marketing, manufacturing service or finance and to develop these skills for themselves. To complete the circle of requirements to bring things to actuality for the entrepreneur; this involves steps to secure capital, the market and to finally produce the actual product and or service.
Ultimately, we may observe entrepreneurs, as artists, articulators or alchemists. However these generalities are only helpful in putting forth the roles of entrepreneur as a step by step process and recognized as an interaction between yourself, the community, nation and the world as part of an economic web.

Most people genuinely want to develop their best potential. The following are 5 action oriented suggestions on how you can bring out the best in people in your everyday work or business, your contacts and friends and in your intimate relationships.
First – show you believe in people and let them know you value them and appreciate their talents and skills. A sincere and honest “I believe in you” is often a simple way to produce miracles in their self esteem and confidence. In addition their self worth is enhanced. Just saying hello and
taking the time to chat can initiate the trust necessary to build enduring relationships that encourage personal and professional development and growth.
Second – expect the best in others. Accept and respect people in spite of their apparent strengths and weaknesses. Then challenge them
to become all they were meant to become. Growth is an inevitable law of life and we need to stretch ourselves to realise more and more of our real
potentials. We need to cultivate the psychological and emotional environment whenever possible to provide opportunities for people to excel.
Third – become a partner in people growth. Form partnerships with them. Convey your willingness to be supportive in the achievement of their
goals. Our connection is often the vital element to their success. Most successful people are confident because someone else shares their dreams and
goals and takes them as seriously as they do. Partnerships cooperatively combine the strengths and abilities of the partners to successfully achieve
their mission and goal. And in the process of the partnership the bonus is that we not only help the other(s) to become their best we also grow to become better.
Fourth – create a positive growth environment. People become their best in an environment that allows them to be themselves and encourages
their natural talents to blossom. By environment it is meant that the tone or attitudes of an individual, group or organization is what set the tone to
create the positive behaviour and creativity that bring about a positive win-win result. Positive affirmation rather than criticism is more effective in
creating the climate to cheer people on to succeed even more.
Fifth – celebrate their success. Applaud the valued contribution of people in their achievement(s) no matter how small. Small achievements are only the building blocks to bigger future ones. Personal recognition is perhaps the most effective motivator because its impact is
internal and its effects are long lasting. Real authentic celebration of one’s success goes far beyond the presentation of plaques and cheques or trips even though these tangible benefits reinforce the sense of achievement. Real recognition empowers people to the realization of what it means to succeed. It honours the individual in their accomplishment and inspires them to strive for even higher goals that they may have believed impossible before. People really want to become better and more effective in living their lives with all its challenges and difficulties and in this we all share common experience. Let us resolve to work toward lightening each other’s burdens, promote the bright side and create a positive enlightened environment where we may all be celebrated for our efforts to make a positive difference in our lives and in the lives of others.

I become a patriot of peace
When I effectively exercise my intelligence to the advantage of my fellowman
When I respect other’s opinions which may differ from my own
When I show support and protect the rights, freedoms and properties of others
When I seek to use my position to advance the opportunities of others
If I imagine everyone, everywhere to be entitled to the same privileges I enjoy
If I believe my heritage gives me an opportunity to share the resources of nature
When I practice the philosophy of live and let live
When I make success in life a matter of helping people to discover their role in society and how this may
transfer into a wider understanding and experience of life
When I encourage the minds of people to be guided by reason rather than regulated by force
When the God I conceive is a manifestation of cosmic potential in the universal scheme of things
When I live the Credo
My country is the world
My religion to do good
And regard everyone, everywhere as brothers and sisters.

Amidst the ongoing wars, rebellions, battle skirmishes and acts of terrorism that continue to plague our world. There is the prevailing cry for peace- family peace, social peace, religious peace and world peace.

The following is a short treatise on how you (we) can advance the cause of peace in our communities and nations and expanding into the world.

Most managers find managing people the most frustrating and least rewarding part of their job. It’s inherently difficult. And the advice and jargon are both overwhelming and contradictory. Typical ways of coping: Apply common sense, rules of thumb, or simply avoid the problem.

If an effort to simplify and provide straightforward counsel, here is a list of what we think are the most critical components of decision making by any self-aware manager:
If you’re a line manger, you’ll find yourself spending from 75% to 95% of your time with people or dealing with people problems- like it or not. Many times, people problems will be mixed with technical questions. Don’t be frustrated by all this talking and listening.

The essence of managerial skill is to “keep moving” learn to tolerate short, but frequent interactions, to tolerate not finishing a subject, to tolerate having to go back to individuals again and again. People problems are rarely solved forever. Objective: Keep them within limits. Keep making contacts. Easy give-and-take is the only guarantee of reasonably good interpersonal relationships. You can’t have that without constant listening and talking.

Find good people, and support them with backup and encouragement. The right person, well motivated, will perform significantly better than the average person.
Satisfaction with earnings is almost entirely related to what other relevant people are earning. Comparison, not absolute amounts, count.

Job relationships are more predictable and less upsetting than many family or community relations.

Earning one’s way and having a job are the sources of great personal satisfaction. Grousing is not a measure of discontent. Often the most committed are the most critical, and the least committed are often the most indifferent.
Boundaries are the most important elements of a job. How does performance fit into the needs of other jobs? In selecting and appraising people, consider their capacity for relating to the other

people upon whom their jobs impinge. Technical knowledge is secondary.

Organization productivity results, not from speed and sweat, but from jobs smoothly intermeshed one with the other, a minimum of argument over who should do what and how. Continuity and regularity comprise the only reliable source of cost saving.

You and your subordinates will almost never see a problem the same way. Your experiences and perspectives are different. Stop before you delegate or discipline. Find out by good interviewing how the other person perceives an issue before you do anything about it.

Before you get progress or agreement on an issue involving another person, there must be agreement that there is a problem. Spend your time getting agreement on the nature of the problem. Explore solutions together. A solution that needs conflicting needs.

Feedback on performance and positive encouragement are the sources of improved motivation. Ignorance of results and / or a climate of criticism are the two most common sources of apathy and lack of motivation.

continuation from November-December Issue
That circumtances grow out of thought everyone knows who has for any length of time practiced self-discipline and self-purification, for they will have noticed and realized that the alteration in circumtances has been in exact ratio with their altered mental condition. So true is this that when one earnestly endeavours to remedy the defects in their character, and makes swift and marked progress, they pass rapidlythrough the succession of the benifits.
The soul attracts that which it secretly harbours; that which it loves, and also that which it fears; it reaches the height if its noblest cherished aspirations; it also falls to the level of its unchartered desires and circumtances are the means by which the soul receives its own.
Every thought-seed sown or allowed to enter into the mind and to take root there, produce its own, blossoming sooner or later into act and bearing its own fruitage of opportunity and circumstance. Good thoughts bear good fruit, bad thoughts bear bad fruit.
The outer world of circumstance shapes itself to the inner world of thought, and both pleasant and unpleasant external conditions are factors which make for the ultimate improvement of the individual. As the reaper of one’s own harvest, one learns both by suffering and joy.
Following the inner most desires, aspirations and thoughts, by which one allows to be dominated, one at last arrives at their fruition and fulfillment of the outer conditions in life. The laws of growth and adjustment are everywhere at one’s disposal.
One does not come to be imprisoned only by the tyranny of fate or cicumstance, but by the pathway of grovelling thoughts, actions and base desires. Nor does a pure minded one fall suddenly into crime by stress of any mere external force; the criminal thought had long been secretly fostered in the heart, and the hour of opportunity revealed its gathered power. Circumstance does not make one it reveals to ourselves. No such condition can exist as descending into vice and its attendant sufferings apart from unsavoury inclinations, or ascending into virtue and its pure happiness without the continued cultivation of virtous aspirations; and one, therefore, as the Lord and master of their thoughts, is the author and shaper of their environment. Perhaps even at birth the soul comes to its own, and through every step of its earthly pilgrimage it creates conditions which reveal itself, which are the reflections of its own purity and impurity, its strength and weakness.
One does not attract that which they want, but that which they are. Their whims, fancies and ambitions are thwarted at every step, as their inmost thoughts and desires are fed with their own food, be it foul or clean. The “divinity that shapes our ends” is in ourselves; it is our very oneself: thought and action are the jailers of fate they imprison, being base; they are also the angels of freedom they liberate, being noble, not what one wishes and prays for does one get, but what is justly earned. Our wishes and prayers are only gratified and answered when they harmonize with our thoughts and actions.
In the light of this truth, what, then, is the meaning of “fighting against circumstances?’ It means that one is continually rebelling against outside effects while still nourishing and preserving its cause in their heart.

Mind is the master power that moulds and makes and one; is mind and evermore takes the tool of thought and shaping what is willed brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills one thinks in secret and it comes to pass the reflection we see, is but our looking glass.
One’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed-seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.
Just as a gardener cultivates his plot, keeping it free from weeds, and growing the flowers and fruits which are required, so may one tend the garden of their mind, wedding out all the erroneous futile and impure thoughts, and cultivating toward perfection the flowers and fruits of empowering, meaningful and pure thoughts. By pursuing this process, one sooner or later discovers that we are the master gardeners of our mind and consciousness, the director of our life. This also reveals, within oneself the laws of thought and perceives with ever increasing accuracy, how the thought-forces and mind-elements operate in the shaping of character, circumstances and destiny.
Thought and character are one, and as character can only manifest and discover itself through environment and circumstance. The outer conditions of a person’s life will most frequently be found to be harmoniously related to ones minds inner state. This does not mean that one’s circumstances at any given time are a total indication of one’s entire character, but that those circumstances are so intimately connected with some vital thought-element within oneself that, for the time being, they are indispensable to higher development.
Every one is where they are by the law of being, the thoughts which have been built into their character have brought them there, and in the arrangement of life there is no element of chance, but all is the result of a law which cannot err. This is just as true of those who feel “out of harmony” with their surroundings as of those who are satisfied with them.
As an emerging, evolving being, one is positioned so that they may learn to grow; and as the spiritual lesson is gained which any circumstance contains, it passes away and gives place to other circumstances which enable one to grow to a higher level.
One is affected by circumstances so long as it is believed to be the result of outside conditions. But when one realizes that they are and possess creative power to command the hidden elements of being out of which circumstances grow, once then becomes the rightful master.
(to be continued next issue)

This article is not intended as an exhaustive treatise on the power of thought and action. This writing is suggestive rather than explanatory; its object being to stimulate men and women to the discovery of the truth that “we ourselves are makers of ourselves” by virtue of the thoughts which we choose and re-enforce their habit and that as we may have erroneously woven in ignorance and pain, we may now weave in enlightenment and happiness.

One is growing; evolving being by law and not a creation by accident and cause and effect is as absolute and undeviating in the hidden realms of thought as in the world of visible and material things. A noble and god-like character is not a thing of favour or chance, but is the natural result of continued effort in noble thinking and is the effect of long cherished association with God-like thoughts. An ignoble and bestial character, by the same process, is the result of the continued harbouring of grovelling thoughts.

One is made or unmade by oneself as in the armory of thought is forged the means by which one elevates or destroys oneself but fashions the tools with which creates heavenly mansions of joy and strength and peace. By the right choice and positive application of thought, one may ascend to the Divine Perfection; by the abuse and wrong application of thought, one descends below the level of the beast. Between these two extremes are all the grades of character and we are their maker and master.

Of all the beautiful truths pertaining to the soul which have been restored and brought to light in this age, none is more gladdening or fruitful of divine promise and confidence than this that one is the master of thought, the moulder of character, and the maker and shaper of condition, environment, and destiny.

As a being of Power, Intelligence and Love, and the lords of our thoughts, one holds the key to every situation, and contains within that transforming and regenerative element by which one may become what is willed.

One is always the master, even in our weakest and most abandoned state; but in our weakness and degradation is the foolish master who misgoverns their “household.” When one begins to reflect upon this condition, and to search diligently for the Law upon which our being is established, one then becomes the wise master, directing and focusing their energies with intelligence, and fashioning thought to fruitful issues. Such is the conscious master, and one can only thus become by discovering within oneself the laws of thought; which discovery is totally a matter of application, self-analysis and experience.

Only by much searching and mining are gold and diamonds obtained, and one can find every truth connected with their being, if they will dig deep into the mine of their soul; the grand realization that one is the maker of character, the moulder of life, and the builder of destiny, one may unerringly prove, if they will watch, control, and alter their thoughts, tracing their effects, upon others and upon their life and circumstances, linking cause and effect by patient practice and investigation, and utilizing their every experience, even to the most trivial, everyday occurrence, as a means of obtaining that knowledge of oneself which is understanding, wisdom, power. In this direction, as in no other, is the law absolute that “one that seeketh, findeth, and to them that knocketh the door shall be opened“; for only by patience, practice, and ceaseless importunity can one enter the door of the temple of enlightenment.

Gossip as a function of human behavior has been with our species as long as recorded history. In our everyday human encounters, at various functions, at work, at business and social activities and where we find ourselves at a myriad of other human situations, most of us at some time or another are engaged in and participate in gossip.

The various medias, the internet, television, radio, magazines and newspapers are the usual purveyors of gossip. TV programs such as E-Talk and Entertainment Tonight and other celebrity oriented shows are notorious in their spreading of showbiz personality gossip.

In fact we are inundated with the cult of celebrity gossip and with our preoccupation with what celebrities are wearing (especially the women). And what they are doing, thinking, where they are going, their latest movie, TV programs, books, songs and often accompanied by outrageous behaviors.

Why are we interested? Is this preoccupation genetically hard wired into our brains or does it serve as having some kind of sublime social interactive benefit?

What kind of conversations do you participate and involve yourself in? Do you spend much of your time with others talking about other people and their idiosyncrasies? Do you talk about important issues relating to the world and its social and political ideological problems? Are you part of the problem or part of the solution? Are you functioning and behaving in a way that can bring about a more enlightened humanity or are you just going on with much of the nonsense or what so many others are doing?

In essence what can we do or you do to make a more positive difference in your interactions and conversations with others.

Let us start to take steps to make a positive difference instead of spending so much time on needless gossip that leads to undermining our self respect by putting down and telling falsehoods and talking badly about others.

Can fiction come true? In the annals of ocean disasters throughout the centuries none is more perplexing than the saga of the “unthinkable” luxury liner the RMS Titanic in her maiden voyage to America in 1912.

Few are still alive who remember this tragic episode. However, the story and events surrounding this fatal disaster was preempted some 14 years earlier in a book titled “Futility” written by a novelist Morgan Robertson.

Robertson’s story concerned a floating palace which sailed from South Hampton, England in 1898. She was the biggest and grandest liner ever built and the wealthy elite basked in her luxury as she crossed the Atlantic. However, the fictional ship never reached her destination as her hull was ripped open in a collision with a giant iceberg and sank with a heavy loss of life.

The fictional name of the ship was Titan and both the fiction and fact converged 14 years later in 1912 when a real luxury ocean liner set out on the same maiden voyage. The Titanic was also laden with rich passengers and she too rammed an iceberg and sank. Prophetically the loss of life was enormous because of the lack of life boats.

In many ways the similarities between the Titan of Robertson’s novel and the Titanic are almost identical. They were roughly the same nautical speed and carried approximately 3000 passengers. Both were considered to be unsinkable. And both sank in exactly the same spot in the North Atlantic.

But the remarkable coincidence does not end there. The famous journalist W.T. Stead published in 1892, a short story which also proved to be an uncanny, preview of the “Titanic” disaster. Stead was a Spiritualist and failed to help his own psychic intuitions as he was one of the 1,513 people who perished when the Titanic went down to its watery grave at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean.

Do time portals exist that permit us to glimpse into the future through our imagination or was this a “Jungian” example of “intuitive convergence” of a short or just coincidence?

Write and let us know what you think!

Today, many of us are preoccupied and concerned with the issues of aging. We want answers on how we age and how we can slow down the process of aging so that we may continue to enjoy good Health and Wellness and maintain an active lifestyle that provides meaning for living.

One of the primary agers that affect us is stress and the manner and attitude we adopt and hold on to in coping with life’s stress factors.

Aside from common sense activities that we can engage in such as cultivating friendships, exercising, eating healthy well balanced meals, flossing and taking a vitamin-mineral capsule everyday.

Here is a practical 10 step program to slow down and reduce your real age.
  1. Take your vitamins. Regularly talking vitamin C (1,200 mg/day) Vitamin E (400 iu/day) calcium 1000-2000 mg/day, vitamin D (400-800 iu/day), foliate 400 mg/day and vitamin B6 (6mg/day) can help you to look years younger.
  2. Stop smoking and stay away from passive smoke. Smoking over many years makes you look years older. All you have to do to confirm this is look around you at those with smoke. Save your money or spend it on more worthwhile things.
3. Know your blood pressure. A person with a blood pressure of 115/75 mmHg.
4. Reduce your stress. Not managing bad stress can also raise your age many years higher than your real age. Build positive social networks and learn stress reducing strategies and you will look and feel years younger.
5. Floss your teeth. Flossing and brushing daily (after meals if possible) can reduce your real age 6-7 years.
6. Get active. Exercise even a minimum amount for about 20 minutes a day can reduce your real age by 3-4 years, go dancing, take walks, go bowling cycling, swimming etc. Get together with others and participate in interesting activities.
7. Be a lifelong learner: people who take an interest in what is going on around them and in the world and who remain interlocutory enjoy a 2-5 year more youthful edge.
         8. Get your fiber fill. Get at least 25 grams of fiber per day to keep yourself regular and maintain good digestion.
9. Smile and laugh a lot. Laughter reduces stress and strengthens the immune system and releases feel good endorphins in the brain. You’ll not only look good but feel great in the process.
10. Maintain a positive mind and attitude in your daily activities true your actions with family, friends and associate. Look around for ways in which you can continue to serve your community. And how you can make a positive difference in your life and in the life or others.

In realizing and practicing the above lifestyle change suggestion you will empower yourself to put more meaning in your life and more life in your meaning.
